Local Color

Earlier this week I was unpacking a case of Forge Cellars 2014 Riesling Classique, and was drawn to a promotional card that was enclosed. The card was about a half page size with information about their vineyards and wines – the other side was a wonderful topographical map of the Finger Lakes region; Cayuga, Seneca Canandaigua…plus about four more grown dim in memory.
I was hit with a huge wave of nostalgia and many thoughts about how much history and pleasant experiences have been mine in association with the areas north of the city. The Catskills, Finger Lakes and Adirondacks are huge favorites of so many of us.
Now that the drought has broken and we are graced with fall colors, falling leaves, a chill in the air and Halloween things everywhere, it seems to me a perfect time to pay more attention to the wines (and spirits!) that are produced here in our home state – and Forge Cellars is a great place to start. Plus, coming from close to home they make for great conversation, interesting comparisons and a warm glow in the stomach
