What’s your favorite wine?

What is your favorite wine? I am asked this question at Vintology many times a week. While I enjoy many different wines, there is one region and one wine that comes to mind as being my favorite. I love red wines from the left bank of Bordeaux, these are Bordeaux wines that have a high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon. There is one wine in particular that stands out for me, it is Chateau Sociando Mallet from the northern Medoc. I fell in love with Chateau Sociando Mallet back in 1992 when I first began in the wine business. It was the first great Bordeaux wine that I was introduced to and it struck all my chords of what I enjoyed in a wine, and that has never left me. What is it about a red Bordeaux, particularly Ch. Sociando Mallet that I love? Well, like all good Bordeaux, it is dry, fresh and refreshing; it wakes my palate and commands its attention. It is not super powerful with alcohol or thick, it is instead all encompassing, balanced and graceful on the palate, inviting me to eat and drink more. It changes in the glass, over time and with food. This is what I love! I enjoy my Sociando with age or in its youth. It can age effortlessly for 25-40 years. I will continue to purchase Chateau Sociando Mallet vintage after vintage because it has never let me down. This is my favorite! What is yours?
